One of my most favorite books of all time, written by Paulo Coehlo, The Alchemist is a beautifully written illustration of how synchronicity abounds whenever you listen to your heart and believe in your dreams.

The story is about a young man, a shepherd, that sets out to search for a buried treasure and along the way, meets people of all backgrounds, who challenge him to grow and listen to his dreams and intuition to help guide him to the *treasure*.

It’s a beautiful example of process, the emotional experiences that present themselves to us and ask us to grow and heal unfinished places inside of ourselves. Throughout the story, the protagonist is faced with having to make hard choices between safety (old safety) and growth.

Sometimes he chooses old safety, other times he has enough support to choose growth. The beautiful piece to his journey is that each of his decisions whether to grow or hunker down into old safety for a while, are equally important experiences in his emotional growth process.

I like to say that all growth has a “gas pedal and a brake pedal” and the gift lies in learning how and when to use each. This story is a beautiful example of how important it is to ultimately listen to that little voice inside of you and learn how to support yourself exactly wherever you are in your growth process.

Even if that means learning how to support yourself in a place of being “stuck” or frustrated.

Everything that happens has meaning, even if your brain does not understand why it’s happening. When you can learn how to bring support to all of your experiences, that’s when true alchemy happens and change opens up in a big way.

If you haven’t yet, I invite you to pick up a copy of this book and make your way through it. It’s a wonderful story, full of support for the transformational power of honoring your heart.
